Airtran Reports 5.4 Percent Increase in Traffic for February

AirTran Airways posted increases in traffic, capacity, enplaned passengers and load factor in February, according to preliminary numbers released March 3.

Traffic, also known as revenue passenger miles, climbed 5.4 percent to 1.29 million for February.

In addition, capacity was up 4.2 percent, while the number of total passengers climbed 0.4 percent to 1.6 million.

Load factor — how full planes were — was also up by 0.9 percentage points to 75.1 percent.

The Orlando-based airline said year-to-date numbers for 2010 were also up compared to the same period in 2009.

Traffic climbed 6.1 percent to 2.6 million, capacity was up 6.4 percent, and total passengers onboard rose 1.5 percent to 3.3 million. However, load factor fell 0.2 percentage points to 73.5 percent.
