Regional carriers from overseas have been hiring a lot of airline pilots from the United States in the last year or so. Now a new regional airline is beginning operations just south of our border and may be looking to staff its new Regional Jets with American flightcrews.
Mexicana Airline’s parent company will take delivery of the first of up to 15 Bombardier CRJ200s at the end of this week as it gears up to launch a new regional carrier in Guadalajara.
Grupo Mexicana also unveiled plans early this month to launch a new regional carrier with a fleet of 13 leased second-hand CRJ200s. CEO Manuel Borja says the carrier has now concluded a deal with Bombardier covering the lease of 13 CRJ200s with options for an additional two.
Within the next few months, the airline is expected to ramp-up its operations and serve up to twenty-four destinations across Mexico, with possible route expansion into the United States. Mexicana Link is expected to be the regional airline for fellow Grupo Mexicana owned airline Click Mexicana, as well as the flagship of the Grupo Mexicana’s operation, Mexicana Airlines.
